Nadie te decepciona, excepto tú mismo
Versión en inglés (English Version)
No one makes you feel disappointed except yourself.
How many times did you feel angry due to behaviors that ‘supposed’ other people shouldn’t have had to you?
I guess the answer to this question is: several or many times.Well, you should know that it is not the other’s fault, but your own.
We often think that this person should have done this or that, said one thing instead of another, or reacted differently depending on the situation. However, that person is acting in accordance, or in coherence, with him/herself. So, if that person’s behavior bothers you in that particular situation, it is not his fault, but yours.
And that happens because we usually put our own ways of acting in others, then, when the person reacts to a situation following their own criteria, we get angry or disappointed because we do not understand why that person has reacted like that, because we expect them to react as we would. And this happens due to expectations. The expectations that we place on other people make us feel frustrated frequently. However, the problem does not belong to anyone but ourselves. For this reason, we must be aware and take into account that everyone is unique and different, and every human has a genuine way of reacting, acting, or behaving. The moment when you set the expectation about how to behave or act in one situation, is you who is creating that situation, then, when this does not happen because that person has another way of acting, you feel angry, frustrated, disappointed, but remember that it is not anyone’s fault, but yourself and the expectations you have created.
Placing high expectations on something or someone can lead to high frustration if the situation, place, or person does not meet those expectations. However, the positive thing about this is that having low expectations often allows us to experience more pleasant and positive sensations or emotions, which means that when we keep them low, whichever positive thing happens, will surprise us double.
